Wetterauer Tuning

Steve's European Automotive is proud to announce that we are the USA distributor for Wetterauer chip tuning. Wetterauer offers software for many makes and models (please see the list below).

Today's modern cars are computer controlled by an ECU or "Engine Control Unit". The ECU contains the software that controls the fuel delivery and ignition timing. Chip-Tuning optimizes, or re-writes these programs in the computer. This changes the fuel delivery maps and boost pressure of the turbocharger. As a result, your engine will run more efficient while increasing horsepower and torque.

Turbocharged vehicles will achieve up to a 40% horsepower increase and a remarkably stronger torque curve. In a normal gasoline engine (no turbocharger) the performance increase will be between 6% and 12%. The acceleration and final speed is recognizably improved along with less fuel consumption, if same driving conditions are assumed.

Why doesn't the manufacturer do this? The engine managment program is stored on a Chip (EPROM) and can basically not be changed. The manufacturer must develop vehicles for a world wide market and must take into account many different circumstances. Some examples include: fuel quality, emission regulations, tire rating, frequency of service and also financial reasons such as insurance.

How to get your car chipped
If you are in the metropolitan Detroit Michigan area, or wish to drive to our facility, we would love to have you come check out our shop and get chipped while you're here.

Otherwise you will need to first remove the computer from your vehicle, (the ECU). Make sure your car is off with the emergency brake on.

It's not a requirement, but strongly recommended to disconnect your battery before you attempt to disconnect the ECU.
NOTE: Before disconnecting your battery, check to make sure you have the correct code if you have an anti-theft radio.

You will need to determine where your ECU is. On most makes/models, the ECU is located under the cowl (or the rain tray) above the engine/firewall underneath the windshield. If you are unsure of how to remove it, then please give us a call and we can assist you.

Once you have your ECU removed, make sure to download our order form, fill it out, and mail it in with your ECU. Steve's European Automotive is not responsible for ECU's sent to us without this form.

Preferred method of shipping is UPS. Go to a UPS store close to you, or give them a call. You can also go to their website at: www.ups.com for more information.

Once we recieve your ECU, we will process and send it back within 2 business days (not including weekends).

Plug it back in, and your ready to go!
