Steve's European Automotive is the only North American distributor for Wetterauer chip tuning. Wetterauer offers software for many makes and models (see list below).
Today's modern cars have an ECU or "Engine Control Unit". The ECU contains the software that controls the fuel delivery and ignition timing. Chip-Tuning is a process that rewrites the software found in the car's ECU. This changes the fuel delivery maps and boost pressure of the turbocharger (if applicable). As a result, your engine will run more efficient and have a noticeable boost in horsepower and torque.
- Turbocharged vehicles will achieve up to a 40% horsepower increase and a remarkably stronger torque curve.
- Normal gasoline engine (no turbocharger or supercharger) the performance increase will be between 6% and 12%.
The acceleration and final speed is recognizably improved along with less fuel consumption, if same driving conditions are assumed.
Why doesn't the manufacturer do this? The engine management program is stored on some form of ROM (read only memory) and can basically not be changed. The manufacturer must develop vehicles for a world wide market and must take into account many different circumstances. Some examples include: fuel quality, emission regulations, tire rating, frequency of service and also financial reasons such as insurance.

How to get your car chipped:
If you are in the metropolitan Detroit Michigan area, or wish to drive to our facility, we would love to have you come check out our shop and get chipped while you're here. Otherwise you will need to first remove the ECU from your vehicle; this is usually found under the hood near the cowl. Make sure your car is off with the emergency brake on. It's not a requirement, but we strongly recommended that you disconnect your battery before attempting to disconnect the ECU. *NOTE: Before disconnecting your battery, check to make sure you have the correct code if you have an anti-theft radio. If you are having trouble or you're unsure where the ECU is located, then please give us a call and we can assist you. Once you have your ECU removed, make sure to download and fill out our order form. Include a copy of this form with your ECU. Steve's European Automotive is not responsible for ECUs sent to us without this form. The preferred method of shipping is UPS. Go to a UPS store close to you, or give them a call. You can also go to their website for more information. Once we receive your ECU, it will be processed and sent back within 2 business days (not including weekends). Simply plug it back in and enjoy!
